Dr Anna Saroldi

My DPhil thesis, titled 'Italian Literature in the US and UK since 1945: Translation and Interaction', was completed under the supervision of Professor Matthew Reynolds. Defended in December 2023, the thesis was awarded the 2024 Thesis Award by the International Center for Research on Collaborative Translation (IULM Milan).

I am currently developing a new project on translation and mountaineering, for which I have been awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Durham (2024).

I am also a member of the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation Research Centre, and editor of the OCCT Review. I have taught as Teaching Assistant at the English Faculty, and as Lecturer at the Faculty of Modern Languages and at St Hilda's College (where I was also Director of Studies in Italian).

Research Interests: theories and methodologies of translation studies, Italian and French literature (20th-21st century), genetic translation studies, self-translation (especially poetic), archival research (especially contemporary archives, of living authors), feminist translation studies.

My work has been included in the international bibliography on genetic translation studies at https://gdt.hypotheses.org/bibliographie and my publications feature in the international bibliography on self-translation edited by Eva Gentes.
